The Memorial Garden
In 1985, the Memorial Garden at Highland Presbyterian Church was created to provide an attractive, dignified, and less costly option for Highland members who choose to be cremated and wish to repose in a beautiful setting near the church.
The Memorial Garden is a perpetual garden. No parcels of land are sold or deeds issued. The entire garden is a memorial to deceased members who have made arrangements to be interred there, so no headstones or individual mementos are seen. Rather, a commemorative brick engraved with the member’s date of birth and death is laid chronologically beside the garden’s pathway.
Designed by Ross & Ross, landscape architects from Washington, D.C., the garden features a plaza with benches for meditation and gravesite services, beautiful landscaping and a regal, custom designed Celtic cross. The garden is maintained by a professional gardener and the Memorial Garden Committee, which is overseen by Highland’s Board of Trustees.
