WAR REQUIEM by Benjamin Britten
A timeless expression of humane protest against the butchery of war, the War Requiem was commissioned for the consecrationof the new Coventry Cathedral which had been almost totally destroyed during World War II. Built inside the ruins of the old structure, the new cathedral came to be a metaphor for the triumph of beauty over evil, and the War Requiem was instantly acknowledged as a 20 th century masterpiece.
In the Britten centenary year, join us in the celebration of the human spirit in one of the greatest pleas for Peace ever composed.
