With Jesus Christ as our guide,
Highland Presbyterian Church strives to be a vibrant intergenerational Christian
community sharing our wisdom and talents through music, outreach, and spiritual
nourishment.
OUR PRINCIPLES
Highland Presbyterian Church will be a community of faith that:
proclaims the centrality of worship
nurtures the lives of the baptized
encourages servant leadership in a world of need
invites others to join in becoming disciples of Jesus Christ
celebrates the richness of diversity
offers hospitality
engages in peacemaking
Therefore, Highland Presbyterian Church will be a community of faith that:
- PROCLAIMS THE CENTRALITY OF WORSHIP:
Highland Presbyterian Church is to be a community of faith where worship is the illuminating center of our lives. In our worship we:
- Expect all the generations to gather in order to bring praise and honor to God
- Acknowledge God present in the world and in our lives
- Are transformed and renewed through prayer, scripture, music, and the Sacraments which equip us for God's service in all our relationships, i.e., in our homes, in the workplace, in our schools, in time of recreation
- Proclaim the Word of God where we are awakened to God's abounding grace and profound mercy
- NURTURES THE LIVES OF THE BAPTIZED:
Highland Presbyterian Church is to be a community of faith where we nurture faith journeys, born in baptism, centered in worship, fed at the Lord's Table, and fostered through Christian Education and small group ministries. We affirm the rich tradition of education we have inherited in the Presbyterian Church and know its power to change lives. We offer all members opportunities to learn the lessons of faith and t be energized by the Holy Spirit to seek ways to live what they have learned.
- ENCOURAGES SERVANT LEADERSHIP IN A WORLD OF NEED:
Highland Presbyterian Church is to be a community of faith where we encourage and celebrate servant leadership. Servant Leadership is reaching out into the world to serve Christ by helping others. We urge the congregation to utilize their spiritual gifts in service for all of God's people, realizing that we are each called to ministry as people of faith.
- INVITES OTHERS TO JOIN IN BE COMING DISCIPLES OF JESUS CHRIST:
Highland Presbyterian Church is to be a community of faith that responsibly invites others to discover the power of Christianity. Evangelism is integral to the life of a vital congregation. We provide ways for people to learn of Jesus and to join with us in our service to him. Each one of us is called to this ministry of witness, committing our lives to be accountable to Jesus Christ, the Lord and Head of the Church.
- CELEBRATES THE RICHNESS OF DIVERSITY:
Highland Presbyterian Church is to be a community of faith that affirms and supports the richness of diversity centered in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. We strive to live, work, worship and study, offering an inclusive environment of acceptance befitting a community of Christ. We celebrate as this happens in our midst.
- OFFERS HOSPITALITY:
Highland Presbyterian Church seeks to be a
community of faith that offers hospitality. Hospitality is an attitude
that displays the power of God's love in the midst of ordinary time. It is
a spirit of welcome that witnesses to the presence and compassion of our
Lord Jesus Chrst
- ENGAGES IN PEACEMAKING: Highland Presbyterian Church,
responding to Christ's call to be peacemakers, nurtures and equips its
members to seek justice and reconciliation, and to be peacemakers through
worship, prayer, Bible study, and work in the congregation, community and
through the world. Seeking justice and reconciliation, and doing
peacemaking is a mission priority of the congregation and is an essential
component of every aspect of Highland's ministry.
OUR VISION
Highland Presbyterian Church seeks to be a community of believers on a
pilgrimage to explore and discover the vitality of faith founded in the
love of God, the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the power of the Holy
Spirit. Our goal is to never rest on past success but to evaluate our
mission and ministry in order that it embraces fresh opportunities to
worship, nurture, encourage, show hospitality and celebrate the richness
of life together as disciples of Jesus Christ.
