Since its beginnings, more than 100 Highland members have been served by our caring, specially trained team of Stephen Ministers. This one-to-one lay ministry that pairs hurting members in one-to-one relationships with equipped and empowered lay caregivers. Stephen Ministers are not counselors or advisers. Rather, they bring high quality, confidential, Christ-centered care to help men and women cope with and work through life’s difficulties.

Highland’s Stephen Ministry is part of a worldwide, interdenominational ministry alive in 12,000 Christian congregations. Founded in 1975, Missouri-based Stephen Ministries has enabled more than 600,000 churches to train lay leaders as Stephen Ministers. To date, these Stephen Ministers have walked with 1.5 million people through tough times.

A Stephen Minister is . . .

  •  A caring Christian who offers support to others in a time of need.
  • A trained Christian who has received 50 hours of intensive course work in how to provide distinctively Christian care.
  • A dedicated Christian commissioned by our congregation for confidential, in-depth Christian caring

  • A counselor or therapist
  • A problem solver
  • A casual visitor
