Children’s Ministry

Mission Statement: To transform the lives of children by nurturing a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and interacting with God’s Word; that they may go forward to disciple and impact the world for Christ.

Biblical Foundation: Luke 18:16

But Jesus called the children to him and said, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.

Purpose:

1. To disciple children with the Word of God so that they might grow to think and live the way God has commanded.

2. To establish in children habits of godly living and a daily lifestyle.

(Proverbs 2:1-5)

3. To offer a Christian community for children and adults who are committed to one another and Jesus Christ; that they might grow in their personal lives, talents and learn to be a body of believers.

Highland Presbyterian Church fulfills this mission by:

1.  Having a foundation in Sunday school that purposely focuses on each age group addressing concrete and sequential teaching of the Bible while choosing activities that encourage all learning and interactive styles.

2. Upholding a standard and atmosphere in all children’s programs that promotes safety, trust and examples of the character of Jesus

3. Promoting opportunities and encouraging awareness to serve one another within our church body and in our community and culture.

Sunday School

The Sunday School for children meets on Sunday mornings at 9:30 a.m.

The curriculum being used is

Cokesbury's ROCK SOLID - Building a Heart of Faith

for children age 3 through Grade 3.

FaithWeaver curriculum is being used for Grades 4 and 5.

“Stepping Stones of Faith”

The Stepping Stones of Faith program is a complement to Highland’s Sunday school curriculum. Children ages four through 5th grade are taught creeds, prayers, Bible verses and various worship service components that will help to enhance their understanding of their own faith and allow them to participate actively in worship service.
