Announcements & Updates
We have recently welcomed two more Afghan refugees to Lancaster. These two young men are the brother and cousin of a husband in another family we resettled in Lancaster two months ago. The extended family is happy to be reunited but everyone is now very cramped for space in a house which already held two families. We are in desperate need of a 1-2 bedroom apartment or house for a young couple and their one month old baby. It needs to be in downtown Lancaster or close by on a public bus route so the dad can get to work by bike or bus. Looking to pay $800 – $950 per month. Since Lancaster, like most cities, is experiencing a housing crisis, we hope you will help us spread the word of this need. Any leads to receptive landlords will be greatly appreciated! Please contact Cyndi Delong or Lynn Dawson.
Donate for Building Supplies in Morgantown
You may have heard that construction supplies are not cheap right now! Even if you cannot participate, you can enhance the impact of the Morgantown mission trip by donating funds for supplies. Stop by our bulletin board in the Narthex to “Buy a Tool,” or to give an amount of your choice. You can also send checks to the church with “West Virginia Mission Trip” in the memo line. Highland volunteers always show up ready to work and make a difference; we pray that the cost of supplies will not hold us back in our mission to make homes warmer, safe and drier.
New Senior Pastor!
Highland members overwhelmingly voted in person and via online to call the Reverend Allison Beaulieu as their next Senior Minister! Allison shared a wonderful and challenging message on “Coming Alongside” based on the story of Jesus and the two disciples on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24). After the service, during the fellowship in the narthex, many members shared with Dr. Rabey how impressed they were with the message, both content & delivery. It’s easy to understand why Allison won the prestigious preaching award in her senior year at Princeton seminary!
Because she was already granted a 3-month sabbatical by her current congregation, First Presbyterian York, she will begin her ministry at Highland on August 15. As Dr. Rabey has announced earlier, his last worship service will be Sunday July 31. During the two-week hiatus, we will have our Executive Presbyter, Erin Cox-Holmes and our Stated Clerk, Michael Wilson, fill the pulpit on the two Sundays August 7 & 14.
Our stewardship theme this year is “Great is Thy Faithfulness.” During this challenging year of living in a pandemic, we couldn’t think of a better topic. Our hope is that all of us will focus our daily prayers, offering God our sincere and heartfelt thanks for giving His great faithfulness to us, especially in these times of abundant need.
Throughout these challenging times, Highland has remained the “light on the hill” for all those in our community, as we share the love of Jesus Christ with others in need. We hope that you will make a faithful pledge to enable the dynamic ministries at work at Highland. May God bless you with His faithfulness as you seek His guidance. Thank you.

Updates on Hospital and Death Notifications
With the many changes in medical care due to changing hospital policies, please call
Highland to make the staff aware that you or a family members is at the
hospital. Each hospital operates differently, but most no longer contact
churches about members being patients. Call the church office and ask for Donna 717-569-2651. When a death occurs for a Highland member, it is our policy to contact the family to request a notification email blast be sent to the entire congregation. If the
family chooses not to give permission to us, then we do not send out the email notification. Funeral homes also no longer notify us that our members have died, so it is important for family members of the deceased to notify Highland of the death.
