An Altar in the World Book Study

Plan now to join the fellowship, fun and lively discussion for six Friday mornings from 10:30a.m. to noon as we explore Rev. Dr. Barbara Brown Taylor’s award-winning book, An Altar in the World. This New York Times bestseller won the 2010 Silver Nautilus Award, and Church & Synagogue Library Association’s Best Book of the Year 2010.  The Small Group book study begins on June 4 and meets each week thru July 9. Originally planned for Zoom, participants will have the ability to meet in person as well as on Zoom depending upon safety guidance from the CDC as of June 4.

Publisher’s Weekly starred review notes, “Since Taylor, an Episcopal priest, no longer pastors a church, she can ‘do church’ everywhere: in line at the grocery store interacting with the cashier, walking a moonlit path with her husband. Her candor is another of the book’s virtues: she is a failure at prayer and cannot explain why or how it is or isn’t, answered (“I do not know any way to talk about answered prayer without sounding like a huckster or a honeymooner”), she writes. The twelve chapters mine the potentially sacred meaning of simple activities and conditions, like walking, paying attention, saying no to work one Sabbath day each week. Hanging laundry is setting up a prayer flag, for God’s sake.”

Explore faith, life and meaning.  Ever wonder about your life’s purpose?  Alpha is a 10 week series that includes a film on a specific subject ( Who is Jesus, How to Pray, How does the Holy Spirit guide us) and good discussion.  Bring questions and a friend to enjoy a time of exploring and growing in your faith.

This is being offered weekly on line with zoom beginning Wednesday January 13, 2021 from 7 – 8:30 pm.  Please join us and get to know others while still being in your home.  We are looking forward to hearing your questions and learning from each other as we continue to grow in our understanding of life and what we are meant to do.

Financial Peace University

We had our 2nd graduating Financial Peace University (FPU) class at Highland and now we are planning our 3rd! Are you thinking ahead to a New Year’s Resolution of better control of money?

We have to effectively manage what God has entrusted to us. Psalm 24:1 & Psalm 50:10

Because we are created in God’s image (the image of the ultimate Giver), we find greatest fulfillment in giving. 2 Corinthians 9:7 & Malachi 3:10

Are you now ready to join more than five million people whose lives have been changed by Financial Peace University(FPU) now offered at Highland Presbyterian Church.

Just imagine the impact we could have on the community if we were all debt-free! Marriages and families would be strengthened. People would be freed up to be outrageously generous. This kind of hope will ignite change in our entire community!
