NEW CLASS OFFERED – Are you saved? How do you know? Dr. James MacDonald’s teachings emphasize the precise exposition of God’s Word and its practical life application. Bring your Bible and prepare to learn God’s Truth. The class, led by Tom Whitworth, will meet in Room 204 on Sunday mornings at 10:45 a.m. from February 7 to March 7.The same class will be presented Tuesday evenings, also in Room 208 at 7:00 p.m. from February 9 through March 9.

LIVING 2010 IN THE PRESENCE OF GOD – Relating to God is how we are created to live in our world! Establishing guidelines to practice keeping God at the center of all that we do is key to our relationship, discipleship and growth as Christians. This six week class, led by Ann Osborne begins at 6:45 p.m. in Room 208. The class explores six questions and areas of our lives where we can invite God’s participation. On February 10 a panel comprised of Linda Brackbill, Chris Walker, Jan Longenecker and Steve Brennaman will share ideas on the topic “How do you approach work as part of your way of being a disciple, rather than as something divorced from your faith journey?” Each panelist will share a bit of their own vocational story. They will give some ideas about how

SUPER/SOUPER BOWL PARTY! – Highland’s Youth and Family ministries are teaming up for a Super Bowl party! Come out TODAY at 6:00 p.m. in the TYC/Gym to watch the game and spend time together. We’re taking the opportunity to make tonight a Souper Bowl party by asking that each person coming to the party bring a can of soup that will then be donated to the local food cupboard. We’re also requesting that any youth group students bring soft drinks and families bring an appetizer to share with the group. Please sign up in the narthex or call the church office. DOROTHY ROSE SMITH CONCERT SERIES – Wednesday, February 10, at
7:30 p.m. Le Stravaganze will present a concert in honor of love entitled "A Many Splendored Thing". Highland's own John Fowler, son of Larry and Juanita Fowler, will join soprano Anne Mason, violinist Chris Brooks, cellist Laurie Reese and Simon Andrews in a program designed to delight the senses, touch the heart and inspire the soul.
“SOUL PURPOSE” – Come and enjoy a Valentine’s Day covered dish dinner with the Highlanders on Saturday, February 13, at 6:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m. featuring the gospel group “Soul Purpose” singing traditional gospel, country and worship music. The cost is $5.00. Bring your own place setting. VALENTINE’S DAY LUNCHEON SPONSORED BY THE PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN will take place on Tuesday, February 16, at 12:00 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The menu will be Valentine Chicken Salad and “Death by Chocolate” Dessert (there will be an alternative choice). Entertainment will be provided by The Chamber Choir from The Veritas Academy. THIRD THURSDAY VALENTINE’S LUNCHEON – Join us for a special time of fellowship, learning, music and food as we celebrate Valentine’s week on Thursday, February 18, at 11:00 a.m. Highland’s Director of Music Ministry, Dr. Simon Andrews, will be our featured guest, giving a brief concert on the pipe organ. We will begin our time together in the Sanctuary, and then move to Fellowship Hall for the Luncheon.
SINGLES AND SENIORS MOVIE NIGHT – The light hearted comedy hit with Sandra Bullock entitled “The Proposal” will be the Friday evening feature on February 19, at 7:00 p.m. for Highland Singles Movie Night. Come join us for fun, laughter, fellowship and fresh popcorn with the BIG SCREEN projector in the Lounge. CONVERSATION ON ESTABLISHING A VALET PARKING MINISTRY – The Board of Deacons of Highland Church has recommended that interested individuals join together on February 21, at 11:00 a.m. in the Hudson Room to brainstorm together and offer ideas as a group about how Highland Church can support individuals with mobility concerns with valet parking, caring support and wheelchair access from the parking lots into the Sanctuary. We need all gifts, talents and skills, and people of all ages and mobility levels to join together to envision how God is calling Highland to serve all God’s people! INTERGENERATIONAL TALENT SHOW – On Wednesday, March 10, we will present the Intergenerational Talent Show, in which everyone is encouraged to perform. Please see Sarah Long to sign up. The deadline to sign up is March 3.
WORLD DAY OF PRAYER – Women from all over Lancaster County and from all denominations will be gathering together on Friday, March 5, to celebrate World Day of Prayer. And it is happening here at Highland! The women of Cameroon have planned the day’s Bible study and worship. Kristie is preparing a tasty lunch. ALPHA RETREAT – If you missed the Alpha Retreat when you attended Alpha, you are invited to this winter retreat, which focuses on the Holy Spirit. FEBRUARY IS THE MONTH FOR THE ANNUAL MISSION PROJECT OF HIGHLAND’S PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN –“BLANKETS +” (previously the “Blankets of Hope Program”) Thousands of BLANKETS, Baby-Care Kits and Health Kits have been sent to Haiti by Church World Service. With Highland’s help, many more will be sent as will tools and supplies to help the Haitians rebuild their lives once the initial emergency is past. Some of our money will also go to people in other areas of the world who need blankets and other emergency supplies. If you would like to support this effort, you will find “Blankets +” envelopes in the pew racks. Checks may be written to Highland and earmarked Church World Service.
STEPHEN MINISTRY will offer a program on February 9 with Reverend Jim Day, chaplain at Country Meadows Retirement Community, who will speak to the Stephen Ministers at 7:00 p.m. in the Choir Room. One of nine certified validation teachers in America, Pastor Day will share strategies used in Validation Therapy. These strategies focus on a method of empathetic and emotional communication used with those who have Alzheimer’s disease, dementia and disorientation. Anyone is welcome to attend. CHILDREN’S CHOIR will sing the second Sunday of each month, starting in February. Children’s Choir is a fun way to share your talent and love of the Lord! If you are Age 4 to Grade 5 we would love to have you join us. We meet Wednesday nights at 6:45 p.m. during w3C. Practice will continue through May. SUNDAY SCHOOL CLASSES COMBINING FOR SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14 – due to families and staff attending the All-Church Retreat. The assignments are as follows: Age 3 - Kindergarten in Classroom 1, Grade 1 and 2 in Classroom 105 and Grades 3-5 in Classroom 103.
STEEPLE TASK FORCE DISPLAY – today is the final day for architectural drawings of possible steeple designs to be displayed in the narthex. Four of the drawings were judged to meet the specifications. Please view the drawings and complete the comment sheet, which will be helpful to the task force as the design selection process continues.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE – Please keep in mind that the Board of Deacons maintains the Emergency Financial Assistance Fund for Highland members experiencing severe financial hardship. Confidential, short term financial support for living expenses is available to members for emergency needs. Requests for funds are to be made through the Highland clergy, a written application is then considered anonymously by the Deacon's Financial Assistance Committee, and funds are disbursed directly to the creditor. Any general questions about the Fund can be directed to any Deacon, in confidence. Contributions to the Fund are also very much appreciated, payable to Highland, with the notation Deacon's Financial Assistance Fund.

SPRING IS REALLY COMING, and so are the daffodils from the American Cancer Society. If you would like to pick up your daffodils at Highland, the delivery date is Wednesday, March 17. However the order deadline of February 19 is fast approaching. Prices are: $10 for a bunch, $12 for potted minis, $15 for a vase and bunch and $25 for a Boyd’s Bear and a bunch of daffodils. THE “BEAUTIFUL GAME” COMES TO HIGHLAND! Beginning Thursday, February 11 and lasting for five weeks, the Sports Ministry at Highland is sponsoring indoor soccer. There will be two sessions, 7:00- 8:00 p.m. for Ages 5 through 10 and 8:00-9:00 p.m. for Ages 11 and up. There will be some instruction for beginners and lots of game play for everyone.
